As therapists we are intimately familiar with the demands of this helping profession. Compassion fatigue is very real and working with clients can sometimes bring up our own emotional stuff. Makes sense as we are human too. And we don't always get it right and take a proactive approach to our mental health. We need to though if we want to provide the best care for our clients, model healthy behaviour for them and to commit to our own growth and emotional wellbeing.
I have been a Psychotherapist in private practice for 8 years. Before this, I had previous careers in education, international development and humanitarian aid work. In these prior careers, I taught and designed powerful mentorship programs and trained teachers to become successful mentors. I was also fortunate enough to have had my own experiences both as mentor and mentee. These experiences were profound and invaluable.
As a mentor, my mindset, awareness, experience and compassion were important for what happened in the mentoring relationship. It gave me an understanding of how ongoing learning and support can feed both persons' personal and professional development positively. As a mentor now, I draw from my extensive teaching and mentoring experiences. My mentorship journeys provided me with learning, support and guidance at the time but pushed the boundaries beyond that. I felt empowered me with the confidence, clarity and direction in my professional choices. In fact, choosing to become a Psychotherapist in the first place came from a mentorship experience.
Working with a good fitting mentor at any stage of the therapist journey can be a transformative and cathartic experience. If you are open to it, the right mentoring experience can help you navigate the often challenging and complicated terrain as a therapist. It can also help you to let go of the fear and scarcity beliefs that are limiting you. In turn, the new space allows balance, energy, growth and fulfillment to emerge and expand.

Like my work as a therapist, I believe a flexible and personalized approach is essential in the mentoring relationship and process. You have particular needs, goals, personality and beliefs. However, there are common challenges and hurdles amongst therapists so a small group format is possible. Groups allow for learning from peers as well.
While the mentorship sessions can feel informal, we will work together to create what you need; building in practical tools and resources, feedback and accountability and continual support.
We can meet in my office, virtually, in a coffee shop or outdoors. We can have one session or a series of sessions over a period of time. This is totally customizable.

The environment in which therapy happens plays a critical part in a client's therapeutic and healing journey. From the furniture type and positioning to the wall colours or colours used in the space, this affects a client's comfort level, their sense of safety and shapes their overall experience.
There seems to be lots of information out there on the standard design rules. These are definitely important but I believe it is vital to experiment and nuance your space further. Thus creating a space that aligns with your brand, niche, ideal client, style and personality while balancing it with professionalism.
I have a passion to help other therapists have fun and experiment decorating and designing their private practice office space so it reflects them and who they work with. This guidance helps them be intentional in creating a safe and comfortable space. It will also strengthen the therapeutic connection and positively impact therapy outcomes.
Offering virtual + in-person sessions at $160 per hour. Multiple sessions if required, can be negotiated at a discount fee.
